Produk utama dari PT Petro Oxo Nusantara adalah 2-Ethyl Hexanol. 2-Ethyl Hexanol atau yang lebih dikenal sebagai octanol dengan rumus kimia CH3 (CH2) 3CH (C2H5) CH2OH merupakan senyawa organik golongan alkohol.

Pada suhu ruangan, oktanol adalah senyawa berbentuk cair yang jernih, tidak berwarna, dengan aroma yang khas.

Senyawa ini memiliki tingkat kelarutan yang rendah dalam air dan toksisitas rendah, tetapi mudah terbakar. Ketika direaksikan, ia memiliki sifat reaksi yang sama dengan sifat reaksi alkohol primer dan dapat dengan cepat bereaksi dengan asam membentuk ester (BASF, 2001).

Bahan baku dalam pembuatan octanol adalah butyldaldehyde yang diperoleh dari proses hidroformilasi (proses oxo) menggunakan propylene dan syn-gas.
